MY FIRST SOUTH AFRICAN TV SHOW!

by Ebby Weyime / Journal / 1 Comment

In March this year I was cast in an Afrikaans TV series called Die Boland Moorde (Murder in Boland). It was such an honor considering I nether speak nor understand Afrikaans. My character speaks English but everyone else speaks Afrikaans. It’s a crime show and I play Busi Dlamini, a forensic specialist. From the beginning, I knew this was gonna be a challenging role for me but in retrospect I think that’s exactly why I took it. I love challenges and trying out new things.

BUT WAIT…

Before I continue, I’d like to say a very special THANK YOU to my friend Lise who was there for me from the audition stage right until shooting. I was not given a translated script so she helped me out with all the Afrikaans parts. Eight episodes in total was no joke. We spent hours together doing prep work and getting my lines right. Though she was busy shooting Black Sails (check out her IMDb here.) She still found time to help me rehearse when I needed her. Ladies and gentlemen, this is what friendship looks like 🙂

As I was saying…

Learnt a lot from the cast. They are such talented actors who act very professional on set. Also, they were very patient with me when it came to learning cues. They knew about the language barrier and were always coming up to me asking if I needed any help. Bless them!

I also learnt a lot from the crew, especially the hair and make up team. Guess when you spend three months with the same people friendships are bound to be formed. I’m sure I’m gonna be working with them again soon on another set.

This blog cannot end without thanking the writers and producers of the show: Albert Snyman and Louis Pretorius who put their faith me and gave me the role having never met me before and knowing full well that I don’t speak Afrikaans. They gave me the confidence which helped bring my character to life. And of course my agent, Erica, for all the logistics and paper work, couldn’t have done it without you!

Below are some pictures  from the last day on set. Shooting promo images for the show. We expect Die Boland Moorde to  start airing January 2017 on KykNet. Find more pictures and videos of this journey on my Instagram here and please follow me if you haven’t already 🙂

See ya!
