On the 9th of August I celebrated my birthday. Unlike last year when my brother came to visit (see post HERE) This time it was different.
In South Africa we celebrate women’s day on (coincidentally) my birthday. It is a public holiday. You can read what this day is all about HERE . I spent my day in church. Yup! That’s right. We had a special service to celebrate women in my church and I figured this was perfect. Besides, my pastor (Tommy) and his wife (Chouchou) have become like my second parents. I have no blood relatives in Cape Town and I look up to them for guidance. The church as a whole has become my family. It’s where I go when things are bad and need a shoulder to cry on, ALSO when things are good and need to express my joy :). Mid service, pastor stood up to announce that it was my birthday. This caught me completely off guard. He asked me to go the podium then asked the church to sing ‘happy birthday’… I just awkwardly stood there, not knowing how to react or what to do with my hands. They then gave me a banquet of flowers and prayed for me. It was such a sweet gesture. My family away from home. We then a huge lunch as part of the women’s day celebration.

The following day I found out that I had made the cover of Wellness Magazine. They had a special women’s day issue and had found it fit that I grace their cover as the day falls on my birthday. The magazine is all about health and fitness. Healthy living and lifestyle. If you follow me on Instagram HERE you may know how passionate I am about this. It feels so good to be honored like this as I finish the final lap of my 20’s. The cover story was about wisdom, which is exactly what I pray for you, today, my dear reader 🙂
ALSO, I’d like to send a BIG BIG thank you to all my friends and family from around the world who sent me their birthday wishes. I learnt that, on your birthday, time zones are not put into consideration before making the call. Woke up several times in the middle of the night to hear friends wish me a happy birthday. Usually, I’d be pissed but this time their voices brought me so much joy, I didn’t care that it was the middle of the night. Thank you, once again.
