NEW SEASON. NEW HEADSHOTS !

TRUE STORY: Once I was assisting at an audition and was collecting head shots. One actor’s ‘head shot’ was a picture of him in a fireman’s outfit carrying a hose. I wish I was kidding. To make matters worse, we were not even casting for firemen 🙁

Welcome to the wonderful world of head shots. This is the one thing that gets an actor/model through the door for a casting. A bad head shot equals no audition. Sometimes they can book you jobs as well. Last year I booked a role in a documentary  simply through my head shot. The director saw my picture and that was it. Didn’t have to come in for an audition.

So, you see; head shots are kind of a big deal. Unfortunately they don’t come cheap. You have to look at them as an investment. Now, I know your boyfriend takes very beautiful pictures of you for your Instagram and your kid brother is a wizard at Photoshop but sadly that won’t cut it. You must find a professional to take your ACTING head shots. Again,  actors head shots are completely different from modelling ones. There there are many photographers out there who take beautiful pictures but that doesn’t mean that they know how to take acting head shots. This requires a specific skill. A few rules need to be followed. For example, no hands, eyes straight to camera, minimal make up etc. There is a lot of material out there concerning head shots. You can find some here and here and everywhere else on the internet really. Bare in mind though, an expensive head shot does not equal a good one. You must do your research, ask around, make sure that you and the photographer are on the same page when it comes to working together.

My head shots were taken by Justin Munitz. He is the same one who took my previous pictures here. We worked so well together the first time that when I needed to update them I didn’t even think twice on choice of photographer. It also helps that he is a model and actor himself so he completely understands what is needed. We had so much fun during the shoot that we decided to take a few full body shots as well :).
